Oscar winners for Harman's debut film - LOVE STORY 2050

By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

Harry Baweja and Adlabs, the team behind LOVE STORY 2050, which marks the acting debut of Harman Baweja, is one ambitious film to look forward to. The film has been in the news even without Harry making any noise about it. The latest development is, the producers have finally locked the release date: 21st December.

Not only has Harry invested a lot of money in the project, he is also investing a lot of time in its special effects. “We are devoting nine months to get the desired results. We’ve already spent four months and another five months will be required to give the film its final look,” Harry informs me.

The special effects are being executed by four international firms, of which two special effects’ houses -- Weta [New Zealand] and John Cox [Brisbane, Australia] -- have already won the coveted Oscar for their work on international projects.

The Taj Mahal was selected as one of the new seven wonders of the world in a global poll announced on July 7, 2007.

The actor bags a place in a world power list of beautiful women that includes Angelina Jolie and Queen Rania

While we don’t need any list to prove Aishwarya Rai is beautiful, the West certainly can’t seem to get enough of her. And marriage to Abhishek Bachchan certainly hasn’t seemed to have affected her appeal.

In a list on the 100 most beautiful women today published by the current Harpers and Queen magazine, the former Miss World has been placed ninth. Interestingly, she bagged the same position in the publication’s list last year too.

Hollywood actor Angelina Jolie topped the list followed by supermodel Christy Turlington, Queen Rania of Jordan, film director Sofia Coppola and celebrity chef Nigella Lawson. The compilation was made by 1000 experts from the all over the world from varied fields of fashion, arts and the media.

Ash, who is shooting in Karjat for Ashutosh Gowarikar’s ‘Jodha Akbar’, was not available for comment, but hubby Abhishek is certainly one lucky man, wot say?

Research Maruti Cars in India

Maruti Udyog Limited, the largest automotive manufacturer of India was established in February 1981 though the production started only in 1983. The company started as a 50-50 JV between Suzuki of Japan and Maruti. The government of India held 18.28% stake untill recently. Toyota reports record sales and profits
The article here shows what can happen when an automaker isn’t saddled with top-heavy United Auto Workers union contracts like Ford, GM and Chrysler.

The unions have handcuffed U.S. automakers with labor contracts that make it impossible to compete with foreign automakers that build cars in this country in non-union factories.

2007 Toyota Highlander crossover
In order to “stop the bleeding” U.S. automakers have dropped brands. Chrysler stopped making the Plymouth and General Motors stopped making the Oldsmobile and may also drop either Pontiac or Buick. It is rumored that Ford may drop the Mercury brand.

Look for the continued decline of U.S. automakers while profits of foreign automakers soar.

It is hard for Detroit to compete on a quality level under the long-standing UAW mentality where equal pay for every worker, regardless of the workers ability, is more important than the quality of production.

Tere Dile mein meri saanson ko panah mil jaaye Tere Ishq mein meri Jaan Fanaa Ho jaayeâ.

kisi ki chahat pe jinda rehnae wale hum na they,
kisi par mar mitnae wale hum na they,
aadat si par gayee tumeh yaad karnae ki,
warna kisi ko yaad karnae wala hum na they. ....... .......

tere dil mein meri saanson ko panha mil jaaye
tere ishq mein meri jaan fanaa ho jaaye
adhoori saans thi dhadkan adhoori thi adhooren ham
magar ab chaand poora hain falak pe aur ab pooren hain ham

E Khuda Aaj Ye Faisla Karde,
Use Mera ya Mujhe Uska Karde.
Bahut Dukh Sahe He Maine,
Koi Khusi Ab Toh Muqadar Karde.
Bahot Muskil Lagta Hai Usse Duur Rehna,
Judai Ke Safar Ko Kum Karde.
Jitna Duur Chale Gaye Woh Mujhse,
Use Utna Kareeb Karde.
Nahi Likha Agar Nasib Me Uska Naam,
To Khatam Kar Ye Zindagi aur Mujhe FANAA Karde.

Ankhen to pyar me dilki zuban hoti hai,
sachi chahat to sada bezuban hoti hai,
pyar mai dard bhi mile to kya gabrana,
suna hai dard se chahat aur jawan hoti hai....

Phool hun Gulaab kaâ?
Chameli ka mat samjhnaâ?
Aashiq hun aapkaâ?
Apni Saheli ka mat samjhnaâ

Dur Humse Jaa Paoge Kaise,
Humko Bhool Paoge Kaise.
Hum Who Khushbu Jo Saanson Mein Utar Jaye, Khud Apni Saanxon Ko Rok Paoge Kaise..

Bekhudi Ki Zindagi Hum Jiya Nahi Karte,
Yun kisika ka Jaam Hum Piya Nahi Karte.
Unse Kehdo Mohabbat Ka Izhaar Aakar Khud Karein,
Yun Kisika Peecha Hum Nahin Karteâ

RONE DE TU AAJ HAMAKO TU AANKHE SUJANE DE
BAHO ME LELE AUR KHUD KO BHEEG JANE DE
HAI JO SEENE ME QUAID DARIYA WO CHUT JAYEGA
HAI ITANA DARD KI TERA DAMAN BHEEG JAYEGA..

Jaam kadwa hai par itna nahi ki piya na jaye,Zindagi me dard hai par itna nahi ki jia na jaye. Mana zindagi ek raat hai... jis me na jane kitne khwaab hai,jo mil gaya wo apna hai...jo tut gaya wo sapna hai...is liye!!! Zindagi jiyo to is andaz mai ki aapko dekhker sabko lage zindagi kitni KHUBSURAT hai

zindigiki asli udaan abhi baki hai.
zindigike saare imtehan abhi baki hai
abhi to naapi hai mutthi bhar zamin hamne
abhi to sara asmaan baaki hai.

Beetey hue lamhe yaad na kar,Ae ishq hume barbaad na kar... Aankhon ke samandar sookh gaye hain,Ab inse barsane ki fariyaad na kar.... .......

muze tasavur me rakh ke vakht kat ta hai koi
ankho ke paro ko jod ke kaid muze karta hai koi

hazaro khwahisho ki mahefilo ke bich
apni tanhai o ko sahelata hai koi...

zindagi ke paimane chhalk na jae pite pite
nashe me mera naam gun gunata hai koi..

dil-e-dariya ke bich mahobbat hai kashti
dubne ki aarzu se kud jaata hai koi..

Yu zindagi ki andheri raat me rasta dikhta nahi
armano ke 100 diye leke manzile dikhaata hai koi

yu to chhu lete wo hath badha ke "akaash"
par dur rahe kar hi zindgi guzarna chahta hai koi

The 'A' list: Why 'Aap ka Suroor’ will be the ace in the pack

Author : Vikas Hotwani

The ‘A’ list

‘Awaarapan’, ‘Apne’ and ‘Aap ka Suroor’— which will be the ace in the pack?

The Deols’ ‘Apne’, Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awaarapan’ and Himesh Reshammiya’s ‘Aap ka Suroor’—it’s ‘three much’ of a choice for audiences this week.

‘Apne’ is a complete family film. With the three Deols coming together, the movie will be a major attraction for their fans. But with the family positioning, it might lose out amongst the youth. ‘Awarapan’ doesn’t seem that promising. The only known face in it is that of Emraan Hashmi. Normally, the music of any Bhatt movie always catches up. But that doesn’t seem to be the case here. ‘Aap ka Suroor’ is undoubtedly the hottest film of the year. The promotion has been extremely aggressive and hard-hitting. The hype created, especially on television, hasn’t been hitherto seen. Also, in terms of advance booking, ‘Aap ka Suroor’ is far ahead than any of the two movies releasing with it. —Amod Mehra, trade analyst

All three movies belong to different genres. ‘Apne’ is a movie soaked with emotions and promises a brilliant performance by Dharmendra. ‘Awaarapan’ on the other hand, could give Emraan Hashmi’s career a new lease. The film is actually meant to white wash his earlier mistakes. It could be an eye opener for people who think Emraan to be a bad actor. ‘Aap ka Suroor’ has a good opening and we do have a reason to watch it—simply to see how Himesh acts! —Taran Adarsh, Trade Guide

Meet Hrithik Roshan's Chinese admirer

Author : Vikas Hotwani

The moment we think of 'Fear Factor' and those daredevil stunts being performed that leave us shell-shocked, one face that comes to our mind is Allan Wu. While the charming hunk may have loads of plans set for TV and movies in China, he is not left out of the influence of our Bollywood stardom.

"I would love to work in India. After all, their movies are famous throughout the world. I haven't got to know too much about Bollywood but I am familiar with names like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan," says Allan. So while he may be able to recount names, there's one actor that he remembers fondly. "There's this one actor who is also very famous. I think it's Hrithik Roshan, the one who looks like a Greek god," he adds.

Awarapan to open in Times Square

By IndiaFM News Bureau

Studio 18 is giving the Bhatt's keenly anticipated Awarapan an international release this week is common knowledge.

Even though it is Emraan Hashmi's maiden principal solo outing overseas, the distributor has left no stone unturned in marketing it to the fullest. One of the results is evident in the fact that among other cinemas in the North America & Canada, the film will open at the well-known Regal E-Walk Stadium 13 Cinema in Times Square.

It is a known fact that only the biggest Bollywood releases succeed in making it to a cinema in the extremely popular Times Square in New York City and Awarapan has managed to do that.

Apparently, the other Bollywood titles releasing on the same day as Awarapan are not likely to release at the Regal E-Walk Stadium 13 Cinema, which is one of the most popular sites on the 42nd Avenue.

Amitabh Bachchan on being honoured by BAFTA

By Subhash K. Jha, IndiaFM

How was the BAFTA experience? Another unique honour for you...

I feel very deeply humbled and honoured. My recognition is really an acknowledgement of the Indian film industry , and indeed India. It feels wonderful to see so much attention being given to our country. There was a retrospective of my films and some documentaries about me made by prominent people. I had to interact with the public over two evenings. British and Indian speakers spoke of my contribution and then I was asked up on stage for Q&A .Clips of my work were shown as a reference alongside on the screen. Good intelligent interaction with the public. The Chairman of BAFTA ended the event by announcing me as an honorary life -time member of BAFTA. I felt really proud to be a small part of the Indian Film fraternity, receiving this distinction.

Plans for the world concert featuring you with Abhishek and Aishwarya have been finalized?

Yes. We hope to be in action next year around April and cover many countries. The tour is called The Unforgettable .It'll be exciting to accompany such a young and energetic group of youngsters. The joy of having Abhishek and Aishwarya along is the added excitement. The tour is expected to take us to all important countries in the world as well as internally in India too. Some additions to the cast are in planning and soon should be finalized. I feel a lot of nostalgia and anxiety within me as I take this on after several years.

Would you like to do a project where all four of you feature together?

You mean Jaya, Abhishek, Aishwarya and myself ? Yes we would welcome a project that involves all of us actively. We hear a lot of talk amongst makers for such projects.

You've just returned from this trip to England covering IIFA, Leeds, London . How has it been for you?

It?s been wonderful. The family has been together. IIFA has been the best and the biggest Bollywood event since inception. It is such a joy for me to see the entire industry together in one place, entertaining, working and interacting with each other. The love and enthusiasm of the Yorkshire people, the respect and dignity with which they treated us was all so memorable.

Legendary lyricist Gulshan Bawra on R.D. Burman

By IndiaFM News Bureau

Today is the 68th birthday anniversary of the legendary music composer R.D. Burman. On this special day, renowned lyricist Gulshan Bawra talks about his association with Burman and how they formed the famous lyricist-music composer pair, to create some of the famous tracks.

R.D. Burman and I entered the film industry in the same year. Like every other lyric writer, I too desired to work with R. D. Burman, but didn't get the opportunity until much later.

Randhir Kapoor (affectionately called Daboo) is accredited with offering me an opportunity to work with Panchamda. It was in the movie Khalifa, that Dabboo requested R. D. Burman that I be allowed to write the songs, and that's the story behind our coming together as a glorious team.

Pancham, Dabboo, Ramesh Behl (Rose Movies) and myself were like family. We believed in enjoying life, and this always reflected in the music we created together.

Pancham and I lived about 3 Km away (Pancham at Ondina in Santacruz on 7th floor, and my apartment was in Bandra, Cemced Apartments on the 10th floor). I could get a glimpse of his house from mine, and very often, I would see the lights in his flat on till late in the night. Usually at that hour, Pancham would either be watching a movie or working on a composition. Music was life to R. D. Burman and having inherited a royal musical legacy from Meera Burman and Sachin Dev Burman, music was 'literally' in his blood. It is believed that every creative man has at least one strong feminine attribute within him. With Pancham, it was cooking! He was an excellent cook and he used to have endless discussions on cooking with my wife Anju.

One evening, Pancham was experimenting with a new dish in my kitchen. While doing so, he was playing with a 'chamach' (spoon) and humming a tune. He said "Anju, see I am playing chamcha - tarang" and in doing so, spontaneously a tune was created 'Kitne bhi tu karle sitam' for the film Sanam Teri Kasam. This song became a big hit and secured Pancham his first Filmfare Award. Dabboo, Chintu, Ramesh Behl, Pancham, Asha Bhosle and myself were a happy united family and it is just impossible for us to believe that Pancham is no more with us.

Pancham, its not only this family of close friends who are aggrieved, the world of Indian Cinema music has forever become poorer with your parting. Pancham, we all Love you and miss you! May Your Soul Rest in Peace!

Maa tujhe salaam!

Despite her preoccupation with films, Hema Malini has always taken out time to promote Indian classical dance and music. Back in 1972, her family had set up an institute called Natyavihar Kala Kendra for this purpose. Now, with 'Jaya Smriti', Hema wants to further the cause by giving young talent a platform to showcase their skills and encourage them to pursue the arts.

Started in 2005 in the memory of her mother Jaya Chakravarthy (who passed away in 2004), 'Jaya Smriti' is held every year around 25 June, her mother's death anniversary. This year however, it will be held a day before at the Iskon auditorium. Says Hema, "My mother worshipped art and always promoted it, so I thought this was the best homage to her. 'Jaya Smriti' invites young performers from across India."

Reminiscing about her mother, Hema says, "I owe my success to her. I was just a normal school-going girl; she recognised the potential in me. I wish every mother was like her who would recognise their child's potential and train them."

Hema says she wants to see her institute branch out, but is not getting enough support. "I've been struggling for the last ten years to get a piece of land to run my institute, but I am not getting any support from the government of Maharashtra. It appears that nobody is interested in promoting the arts," she laments.

You won't need Rajnikanth any longer to make a 'rajni film'

Before setting out to see Sivaji The Boss, I kept asking myself a question which many others have asked me since: Why see a film that, from a cinematic point of view, is likely to be pristine rubbish? But I knew the answer even as I posed the question: I would not have felt compelled to watch it had it not been for one man in the cast — Rajnikanth. This, then, is the power of a star.

Perhaps it is a peculiarity of the Dravidian psyche, but Tamil film stars have this ability to generate extreme forms of idolatry, which have been known to culminate in the star being elected chief minister. But in Sivaji, for the first time in the history of celluloid astronomy, you have a star so powerful that it dissolves the barrier between the producer of the cinematic universe and its consumer, the fan. As a result, the star, instead of merely being a source of gravitational pull that keeps fans orbiting around the film, becomes a black hole that sucks in all cinematic logic, leaving in its wake an assortment of disjointed images and motifs that have been neatly stitched together into a three-hour tribute to the star by an awestruck fan. Indeed, Sivaji is only incidentally a film about one man's war against black money. It is essentially a film made by a Rajni fan, with Rajni the actor playing the role of Rajni the superstar. Once the cinematic logic disappears, what is left is star logic — transmuted into the logic of the superbrand known as Rajnikanth.

With most stars, the film achieves a balance between star logic and cinematic logic. And yes, there have been South Indian superstars before Rajni — MGR, Raj Kumar and NT Rama Rao come to mind. But they were star personalities rather than brand personalities, and as such, cannot compare with the global economic scale and marketing sophistication of Brand Rajni.

In the case of Rajni, over a period of time, through a series of personality-centric films such as Annamalai, Muthu, Basha and others, the star logic gradually evolved into brand logic, which then began to increasingly overrule cinematic logic. Thus Sivaji, which marks the culmination of this process, is not a movie but a three-hour commercial for Brand Rajni. It is pointless, then, to speak of a Rajni film as either 'good' or 'bad'. To assess a film, you should be able to classify it — is it a thriller? A romantic comedy? Or just a mindless masala film? A Rajni film can simultaneously be all of these and none of these. The genre it belongs to, quite simply, is the genre of a Rajni film. It is possible to go and watch a thriller starring Shah Rukh. But any film starring Rajni can only be a 'Rajni film' — the equity of this cinematic brand is so potent it is genre-defining. In this sense, Brand Rajni has acquired a momentum all its own, independent of its flesh-and-blood progenitor. Rajni as an iconic Tamil hero is now in the same league as the iconic though fictional Brit hero, James Bond. In other words, you don't even need Rajni any longer to play the role of 'Rajni'.

That is why the next Rajni movie, Sultan, is an animation one. In this 'Rajni film', the main character, a mythological superhero, will be played by a cartoon in Rajni's attire, with all his mannerisms. Rajni the actor, now 57, might retire from films in a few years. But Brand Rajni will continue to flourish, flicking cigarettes and pummelling villains for a long time to come. And what is the essence of Brand Rajni? In a word, style — the 'Rajni style'. Its two key elements are artifice and exaggeration. They are best exemplified in the over-the-top fight scenes, where a snap of his elbow is enough to send a 300-pound giant of a goon crashing through a wall 30 metres away.

However, even judged by the excesses of his own style, Sivaji marks a departure. In the process of giving the audience what they want, the aura takes over the star, and Rajni becomes a self-conscious parody of himself. Thus, the legendary cigarette flick is replaced by a rather ridiculous stunt: bouncing a piece of chewing gum off his palm into his mouth. And his punchy one-liner, usually a pithy Tamil catch-phrase, has dwindled into a single, insipid, English word — "Cool!" That he could get away with it is what makes Brand Rajni the King of Cool

Beauty bites from the glamour world

By IndiaFM News Bureau

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So with agreement to this adage, beauty holds different perspectives for every other eye. What may be pure, flawless beauty to one may be superficial and bland to another. So what happens when connoisseurs of beauty have varied things to say about this subjective aspect? It fills the canvas with different hues of views about beauty.

Top photographer Daboo Ratnani believes in the final product and not how the person looks in real life. It is very necessary that the person looks dazzling in the picture or else the picture can't be perfect. He says, “As a photographer, beauty is what I see through the lens. I am interested more in the end product - the picture - rather than what the person is really all about. It's okay if the person is not brilliant looking in real life, as long as she is stunning when she is in front of the camera.”

On the contrary, ace photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksha feels that an imperfect beauty makes brilliant pictures. He feels that if a picture goes wrong then it is not the face's fault, it is the photographer's fault though he feels that there is an element of photogenic factors that count.

Daboo feels that a great bone structure and cosmetics can enhance beauty. But he also feels that confidence in oneself is a prerequisite. Gautam agrees that today beauty has become very cosmetic. He asserts, “Unless you have your individuality with your won flaws and perfections - you will look like anyone else around.”

Creative De-Stress - the latest Bollywood mantra

By Bhavna Chopra, IndiaFM

Headlines such as famous Bollywood DJ Aqueel arrested in Dubai for carrying drugs', Saif Ali Khan being hospitalized for excessive smoking, makes one wonder what really is the reason that our celebs resort to such unhealthy means? Is it stress? Or is it their rollercoaster lifestyle?

We all are aware of the hi-end lifestyle that our Bollywood celebrities lead but what we aren't aware of is the kind of pressure that these celebs go through to maintain the starry image. Let it be physical attributes to aggressive competition, stars have always been under scrutiny for their slightest of follies. Having Media like hounding dogs to pounce on you for every wrong statement you make is not easy. Unethical grapevine shamelessly poking fun at your personal life, breaking or patching your relationship with your partner at their whims and fancies is not funny. Critics are ready to strip you for every performance you give and producers reject you for every new role you experiment with. And you thought the stars had it easy. And if this weren't enough our poor bolly fellows have millions of expectations to meet up to. Well being in the spotlight condition that they find themselves in, one can't help but take up to habits that give temporary relief.

But trust our Bollywood stars to be the real heroes and emerge winners in the toughest of testing times. With recent news of our celebs in the likes of Salman Khan, Dia Mirza, Katrina Kaif, et all turning artists and growing a sudden affiliation towards paintbrush, makes us wear the thinking hat and look into the real reason behind this sudden boom of hidden talent ? Can this art be a healer in disguise? Can this chosen hobby which is being made into a passion prove to be the pacifier that also helps in bringing peace of mind?

Movie Review: Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii

By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

It's an arduous task to make a film with kids. And much more difficult to inject a sport [read, cricket] in the plotline. 2007 has witnessed two films with cricket as the backdrop - HATTRICK and SAY SALAAM INDIA. In CHAIN KULII KI MAIN KULII, two tracks run concurrently -- an orphan's desire to have parents and his passion for cricket.

Made with noble intentions and with the motive of making a film that would appeal to kids from 6 to 60, CHAIN KULII KI MAIN KULII doesn't really measure up to the expectations of either adults or kids. That's because the film appeals in bits and spurts. The sequences on the pitch succeed in arousing the required emotions, but the emotional angle in the story [between Rahul Bose and his estranged father Nasser Abdullah] appears fake. Also, the romance between Rahul and Meera Vasudevan is half-baked. In fact, forced in the narrative.

In a nutshell, CHAIN KULII KI MAIN KULII isn't great cinema. Conversely, it's not a below-the-mark movie-going experience either. It floats somewhere in between.

CHAIN KULII KI MAIN KULII is a journey of a 13-year-old an orphan boy Karan [Zain Khan], who lives in a dilapidated orphanage owned by a stern, uncouth warden, John Kakkad [Rajesh Khera]. Karan has two dreams, one is to have parents and the other is to be a big cricketer. His inspiration is Kapil Dev since he has been brought up on the motivating stories of India's World Cup win by the orphanage caretaker, Bholu Dada [Susheel Parasher].

Awarapan to release in Pakistan?

By IndiaFM News Bureau

Several Indian producers in the past have been campaigning for an official release of Bollywood films in Pakistan. Years back, films with a distinct Pakistani flavour, Soni Mahiwal, Mughal-e-Azam and Taj Mahal, were cleared for release, but because of political problems, no contemporary Bollywood title has found a theatrical release in the country, even though illegal viewings and piracy of Indian titles is rampant in Pakistan.

Mahesh Bhatt's Awarapan, releasing next week, will create history in Pakistan, if the Federal Film Censor Board in Lahore is understanding enough. IndiaFM is informed by reliable sources that a print of Awarapan is being taken to Pakistan to be shown to the censor officials on Wednesday. If the film is cleared, it is likely to witness a theatrical release in Pakistan concurrently with the rest of the world, giving the cinemas there a fresh lease of life and the audience a valid reason to rejoice.

The screening of Awarapan before the Censors does not come as a surprise given the Bhatts' affinity for Pakistan and the talent there - be it be it in the form of actress Meera or music personalities like Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Ali Azmat, to name a few. "It's payback time," says an industry insider. "Pakistan should let Awarapan release in its country as there are compelling reasons to justify this."

In Awarapan, Mahesh Bhatt has introduced the chartbusting compositions and renditions of Roxen vocalist Mustafa Zahid, Annie and Rafaqat Ali Khan, making this the first Bollywood soundtrack to feature musical talent from Pakistan in entirety. This is also the first Bollywood film in recent years to have been shot in Lahore. (The Rishi Kapoor-Zeba Bakhtiar starrer Henna had been shot in Pakistan more than a decade back). In the climax of Awarapan, the main protagonist, a simple Hindu boy, Shivam (Emraan Hashmi) brings his unrequited love interest, a Pakistani girl, Reema Zaidi (Mrinalini Sharma) back to Lahore to give her the freedom and respect she yearns for. The film's other heroine, the south-Indian super-star Shriya Saran, plays the role of Aliyah Hamid, Shivam's former love interest before Reema comes into his life.

A Muslim expert was hired on the sets of Awarapan during the shoot in Jodhpur, Bangkok and Hong Kong, as both the actresses essay Muslim characters and it was important to get their body language and mannerisms right, especially for the namaaz scenes. The film, itself, is based on the Islamic tenets of freedom pronounced by Prophet Muhammad.

When we spoke to director Mohit Suri, he confirmed our story, "It's true that on Wednesday Awarapan will be censored in Lahore. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Studio 18 International is giving the film an overseas release, so it would be unfortunate to have Pakistan left out of the equation. If it works out, I will get a chance to have the first simultaneous release in India and Pakistan."

Rajni's old films to be re-released!

Author : Shubha Shetty-Saha

Distributors are scrambling to snap up as many movies of the superstar as they can.

Now that Rajnikanth's magnum opus 'Sivaji - The Boss' is a huge hit, distributors are falling over each other trying to get hold of his old movies. Some smart distributors — in a bid to make most of the Rajni fever — are planning to re-release them.

For instance, his Hindi films like 'Gireftaar', 'Andha Kanoon' and 'Hum' are most likely to be re-released in theatres shortly. Says distributor Pankaj Jaisinghani, "Yes, it is true that a lot of distributors are clamouring to get hold of the rights of Rajnikanth's old Hindi films. They realise that he is a star who brings in huge profits and even his old films will run. With Rajnikanth anything is possible. He is one actor who has such a tremendous following in spite of him never making any pretence to hide his age or anything. It is amazing to see how much his fans adore him." In fact, even most of Rajni's South Indian movies are also in the process of being re-released. Dilip Shah of Aryan Productions in Chennai has bought the rights of 'Annamalai', an old Rajnikanth movie in Tamil. He is also planning to buy the rights of three more Rajni movies. "All distributors have realised the potential of Rajni movies and are trying their best to acquire the rights of as many Rajni movies as possible. Most of his movies were made under the 'AVM' banner and distributors are trying to bag them. They are all planning to dub them in Hindi and re- release them. Even his black and white movies are being sought after. Everybody is frantically searching for Rajni movies. It's a huge craze now," he says. It is ironical that at a time when most Bollywood heroes are finding it difficult to find distributors for their brand new films, those very distributors are busy digging up Rajni's old movies! Just more proof of the man's incredible appeal

Aditya Chopra - Rani Mukherji engaged?

Author : Shubha Shetty-Saha

The city was agog with rumours that Rani Mukherji and Aditya Chopra had a 'roka' ceremony on Monday night

That something has been brewing between filmmaker Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukherji has been doing the rounds for a long time now, but there's a new twist to the tale. Given that Aditya's divorce proceedings with his wife Payal Khanna are still on, it seems unlikely that he would go in for an engagement with Rani. A close friend of the family insists that there is no truth to the rumour. He says, "It is true that Adi's divorce will come through any time now. But he definitely didn't get engaged to Rani." But according to sources, the Chopra and Mukherji family did get together on Monday night to hold a 'roka' ceremony for the couple. According to the grapevine, even though the Chopras are not happy with this association because of their loyalty to Payal, they had to give in to Aditya's wishes. But rumour mongers insist that the engagement ceremony did take place at the Chopra residence in the presence of Yash and Pamela Chopra and Rani's parents, Krishna and Ram Mukherji, besides brother Raja Mukherji. In the meanwhile, the Chopras are said to have bought a Rs 3.5 crore flat for Payal at Khar, and she's apparently already moved in. This is a personal token of affection, over and above the alimony that will accrue. A source close to the family says: "The Chopras, especially Pamela, was very unhappy to let Payal go out of the house. They shared a great relationship with her. If they could, they would have never allowed this to happen. But now they don't have a choice, and are trying to compensate her in the best possible manner."

It's widely perceived that the Chopras were backing Payal ever since they came to know that Aditya was planning to divorce her. She was after all, their choice and they felt personally let down when the marriage failed. It seems clear now that Rani and Aditya are planning to tie the knot as soon as the divorce is through. And chances are that Aditya might move into Rani's new home instead of bringing her into the Chopra residence.

Cook Na Kaho!

Something's cooking with Rozza, and she's too busy to care about who Saif is seeing nowadays

That Saif Ali Khan's ex-girlfriend Rozza has set her eyes on films and television offers is a known, but the lissome lady now wants to do a Padma Lakshmi with her own cookery show. "I come from a family of chefs —five of my uncles are qualified chefs in five star restaurants. So cooking isn't exactly something new for me — I first cooked a meal when I was just 12 and since then it's been my favourite hobby," she says. It's not just Italian food she's an expert at — she can cook up a decent Indian meal as well. "I can make aloo paratha, dosa and kali dal. I'm a good cook," she says, adding that 'masala dosa' is her favourite Indian dish. While she's open to modelling offers, her focus remains Bollywood. "Acting is my priority and that explains why I'm taking Hindi classes; I can now understand Hindi though I'm yet to master the speech," she admits. But won't her accent be a deterrent? "I don't think so; if anything, it will be a part of the charm," she smiles. Quiz her about rumours linking Saif with Bipasha and she curtly replies, "Saif's my past. It's a closed chapter.

AR Rahman in shock after laptop goes missing

Author: After Hours Correspondent

It's the biggest tragedy to have ever befallen AR Rahman — he lost the only record of his latest musical works after his laptop went missing on a flight to London.

Rahman had arrived in the city on Monday for a preview performance of the stage adaptation of 'The Lord Of The Rings' after composing the music for the $25 million spectacular with Finnish band Varttina and Christopher Nightingale. But he was devastated to learn that one of the two bags he checked in at a US airport had gone missing with his outfit for the performance and a computer featuring new compositions. "I don't know what to feel, I don't know what to say. I am very confused. I am disturbed. I have lost my laptop containing the whole data of my work and music," contactmusic has reported him as saying. A spokesperson for British Airways, which operated Rahman's flight, said, "After he contacts us, we will do everything possible in our power to get the missing bag back."

"I think that Amitabh Bachchan is growing with the variety of roles that he is taking on now" – Jessica Hines

By Steven Baker, IndiaFM

The UK is at the start of an Indian summer, with all things Bollywood beguiling Britain over the coming months. At the forefront of Hindi film in her home country, is writer and academic Jessica Hines. After the success of 'Looking for the Big B: Bollywood, Bachchan and me', Jessica has been in attendance at the IIFA awards and the British Academy of Film & Television Arts (BAFTA) honoring of Amitabh Bachchan. Hines, a frequent visitor to India who was reportedly associated with Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, talks to Steven Baker on her views on the Big B, the response to her book in both the countries and her love for Bollywood.

You have traveled to India 29 times, would you consider living in India permanently?

I love living in India but it only works, to my mind, if you have a specific job to do there. There was a point where I thought I would be living there more than London but that didn't pan out.

Where did your interest in Hindi Film begin?

It began in earnest at SOAS (The School of Oriental And African Studies). I was very earnest.

You have been responsible for bringing Bollywood into the public consciousness in the UK, with events like film festivals and Selfridges department store Bollywood month. When do you think Bollywood 'arrived' in the UK?

700 pigeons set free in Awarapan!

By IndiaFM News Bureau

Director Mohit Suri has symbolically used the Islamic teachings of freedom and liberation through his characters Shivam, Reema Zaidi and Aliyah Hamid in his forthcoming film, Awarapan.

"The film focuses on how Shivam perseveres to get Reema the freedom she yearns for, with Aliyah as his reference point," says Suri. "My mother is half Muslim. I have read about how Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) freed the slaves of Mecca and Madina. I've only tried using that teaching in a figurative sense through my actors' actions."

One of the actions implying liberation is used by actress Shreya Saran (Aliyah Hamid) in the Maula Maula song when she sets a pigeon free, as seen in the promos. "Actually, more than 700 pigeons have been freed in the film," reveals Mohit. "Most of them during Maula Maula in Jodhpur. Others were set free in various scenes of the film in Hong Kong and Bangkok."

Movie Review: JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM
By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

Really big expectations? Oh yes! With the premier production house [Yash Raj] at the helm of affairs and Shaad Ali in the director's seat, JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM is expected to strike like a hurricane.

Let's come to the point straightaway. Don't look for a story in JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM. For, there's none here. What you get to see is a collage of interesting moments. It's not one of those conventional prem kahanis that have the lovers drifting apart or a misunderstanding creating havoc in their lives.

What goes against the film is the fact that you feel a vacuum at the end of the screening. Something is amiss. Sure, you are enamored by the gloss. You are awe-struck by the stunning locales of U.K. and France. You are hooked to the performances of Abhishek and Preity mainly. But, deep inside, it doesn't satiate you.

To sum up, JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM is all gloss, no substance. Body beautiful, minus soul. In desi lingo, unchi dukaan, phika pakwaan.

Busy London station. Delayed train from Birmingham. Two strangers waiting for the train... Rikki Thukral [Abhishek Bachchan], born in Bhatinda, living in London; and Alvira Khan [Preity Zinta], more Brit than the Queen herself, however with Lahori blood in her veins.

Shahid Kapoor - Kareena Kapoor doing DDLJ 2?

By IndiaFM News Bureau

Yes, we all know that DDLJ is the most romantic film of our times. The chemistry between Shah Rukh and Kajol is just mind blowing. And who can forget the classic climax scene Kajol running with the train, SRK grabbing her hand and helping her board the train.

Well, seems like the new ages lovers of Bollywood, Shahid and Kareena are trying to recreate the magic in their upcoming film. In fact, they are doing it quite literally by replicating the train scene in Imtiaz Ali's untitled film, produced by Sri Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd.

It is said that Kareena had a tough time shooting this scene. Kareena was supposed to run and board a running train, but the train gained speed which made her nervous. She was also hesitated to do the scene after she failed to do it a number of times. Director Imtiaz Ali then thought of scrapping the scene to avoid any mishap. Kareena however, didn?t want to give up and after a few attempts, she got it right. Shahid obviously got it right as he was replicating SRK.

Did Shahid and Kareena get it right and will they be able to recreate the same magic is to be seen.

Movie Promo watch: Chak De India

By IndiaFM News Bureau

Finally, Yash Raj Films comes out with the teaser of the eagerly anticipated Chak De India. The promo has Shah Rukh Khan whose role is inspired by former National Women’s Hockey Coach Mir Ranjan Negi and the eleven girls of the Hockey team whom he is going to coach.

Hockey being the theme of the film, the promo starts with the girl players getting set for a match. Backed with interesting foot-tapping and inspiring music by Salim-Suleiman, the girls are shown to be getting ready to go for the kill with their hockey sticks.

Shah Rukh Khan also has a few introductory lines to say which unfortunately are a let down. The lines are supposed to be motivating but end up sounding like a desperate attempt in singing rhyming rap in lieu of a typical stimulating talk.

There is no characteristic Yash Raj Films grandeur seen in the promo obviously because it is a film of a different league which has more to it than magnificence of locales. The music seems to be a likely chart topper thanks to stirring yet entertaining music.

All in all, the promo manages to be triumphant in adding more eagerness for Chak De India with Shah Rukh, the Yash Raj banner, eleven women hockey players and truly potential music!

"What would you have been if not a star?"
By Deepa Gahlot, IndiaFM

One of the commonest question the bored journalist always asks the jaded star is "What would you have been if not a star?" Of course, most say that all they wanted to do was act. Some will piously say they wanted to be doctors.

But now that two of out biggest stars, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan have found alternative careers as "farmers", we can speculate on what the others would be good at if they took time off acting.

Shah Rukh Khan: Kindergarten teacher, kids live him, he loves kids, think Arnold Swarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop, isn't the image cho-chweet?

Vivek Oberoi: Maybe he could try his hand at being a real bhai? He got some practice, right?

Sunny Deol: With that dhai kilo ka haath, never too late to be a WWF wrestler.

Abhishek Bachchan: As The Son and The Husband, he has enough duties cut out for him, even if he never does another spot of work in his life!

Aishwarya Rai: The ideal bahu, who stands behind and listens quietly—she already chose her role.

Akshay Kumar: Since he has been a martial arts instructor and waiter, he could try joining wife Twinkle's interior design company and do houses for macho men — John Abraham would hire him.

Salman Khan: Fitness trainer—he'd get to run around shirtless too.

Now Khiladi 2' & 'Baazigar 2' movies
By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

Sequels and remakes are in! And the latest to join the bandwagon are Abbas-Mustan. The director duo is all set to make sequels to their immensely popular and successful films – KHILADI, BAAZIGAR and BAADSHAH. “Yes, the idea was mooted by Ratan Jain of Venus, since the three films are Venus productions,” both Abbas and Mustan confirm the development.

So when are they planning to start the films? “It all depends on when we get the right script. When we sounded off the idea to Akshay, he jumped with joy since KHILADI was the turning point in his career. The films will have to be made with the original actors [Akshay, SRK], otherwise it makes no sense to go ahead with them,” they state.

Besides these films, the badshaahs of thrillers are all set to start films for Ratan Jain [of Venus] and Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts.

Movie Review: Red Swastik
By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

Worldwide over, sex and thrills are a lethal combo. Vinod Pande's RED SWASTIK is about a woman who seeks revenge. She had been raped, her fiancé had deserted her, her kid had died in an accident… On paper, the theme sounds interesting. But, on celluloid, it's a script of convenience.

Pande has chosen interesting stories in the past [EK BAAR PHIR, YEH NAZDEEKIYAN] and to be fair, he has handled a few scenes well [especially the erotic ones] in his new outing, but the emphasis here is more on titillation rather than narrating an absorbing tale.

The film begins with a murder. A corporate honcho is murdered by a sexy siren [Menaka/Sherlyn Chopra] after they've made love. She draws a Swastik on his forehead with his blood.

More murders take place. The police [Harsh Chhaya] is completely clueless. The murderer keeps in touch with the Editor of a woman's magazine [Deepshikha] since she wants her story to be printed. The truth behind her behavior is only revealed in the end.

The brutal murder at the very start sets the pace. You are hooked. The murderer behaves rather mysteriously and that only makes the goings-on fascinating. But the post-interval portions are a terrible letdown, thanks to inept writing [screenplay: Vinod Pande, Preeti Koppikar, Prerna Agarwal].

Movie Review: Dharm
By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

Very rarely does one come across a film that makes the other films look so trivial in comparison. DHARM is one of those films!

In which genre does one classify / place a film like DHARM? It talks of religion. It talks of communal harmony. It also looks at the parent-child bond. Most importantly, DHARM is one of those thought-provoking films that touch the core of your heart.

Certain films are beyond box-office. It would be blasphemous to evaluate their potential on the basis of how they fare at the turnstiles. That holds true for DHARM.

An outstanding film in all respects, this one deserves the highest praise and of course, the highest award. Do yourself one favor. Watch DHARM.

DHARM is about a Hindu priest, Pandit Chaturvedi [Pankaj Kapur], who's revered in Benaras. One day, his daughter gets an infant home. The mother of this infant had disappeared and was untraceable. The priest's wife [Supriya Pathak Kapur] requests him to allow her to raise the child [Krish Parekh], instead of sending him to an orphanage. The priest hesitates initially, but agrees later. Gradually, the child wins everyone's heart, including that of the priest.

The story takes a turn when the child's mother, a Muslim, resurfaces and claims her child. The entire family is shocked…

Director Bhavna Talwar deserves kudos for not only choosing a daringly different story, but also presenting it with rare maturity and honesty. A lot of hard work and detailing has gone into this film and it's evident in each and every frame.

Movie Review: Swami
By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

A film like SWAMI takes you back to the cinema of 1960s and 1970s. A simple story with simple characters, captured on celluloid in the most simplistic fashion. Come to think of it, a subject like SWAMI is a rarity today. In an era where commercial trappings, spell-binding visuals and technical wizardry are used as tools to garnish a film, SWAMI is as fresh as the morning dew.

On the flip side, SWAMI has not much to offer to viewers shelling out Rs. 150 / Rs. 200 for a ticket at multiplexes to watch larger-than-life movies. A story of a middle class family, with songs playing in the background, no great visuals / sets, no masala, no sub-plots, SWAMI caters to a really tiny sect of viewers that has an appetite for this kind of cinema. For the wide majority, it's akin to treating oneself with boiled food, with no spices to tempt the taste buds.

Yet, all said and done, SWAMI marks the birth of a sensitive storyteller -- Ganesh Acharya. The film is rich in emotions and that's one thing that can never go out of fashion.

Swami [Manoj Bajpai], Radha [Juhi Chawla] and their kid [Siddharth] shift to Mumbai after selling off their ancestral home in a village. In Mumbai, they get their kid admitted to a school that's patronized by children belonging to affluent families.

Movie Review: Mp3 - Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar
By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

A love story set in a school is a rarity in Bollywood. MP3 - MERA PEHLA PEHLA PYAAR, as the title suggests, is about the first crush, the first love, which one cannot erase from memory.

MP3 is different from films of its ilk. The lovers here face no parental opposition, nor is there a rich / poor divide. The problems they encounter are pretty trivial, so common amongst adolescents.

MP3 isn't great cinema, it promises no path-breaking story either, but it succeeds in taking you back to those years in life when even holding a girl's hand was a big high. There's a certain innocence that this film captures effectively: the rawness that the characters exude, the shortcuts that teens undertake to impress their friends…

All said, MP3 has soul, something that's missing in most movies these days.

The film opens up with Rohan [Ruslaan], the male lead, catching a little more than the usual forty winks. As he wakes up just on time to scuttle away on his bicycle to school, en route his close friend Sudhir joins in.

Enter Ayesha [Hazel], a bright young fresher on her first trip to school, who ends up having this bizarre first-time experience with Rohan. While the latter is bunking class, he uses her as a shield to protect himself from the seething school principle. The meet ups thereafter are full of drama and gradually, the two fall in love.

Movie Review: Train
By Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM

Extra-marital affairs aren't new for Hindi moviegoers. So how different is THE TRAIN from films that have hit the screens in the past? Well, it tackles this issue and garnishes it with murder, lies, deceit, treachery, rape, blackmail… perfect ingredients for a thriller.

Inspired by the Hollywood film DERAILED [2005; Clive Owen, Jennifer Aniston], the film also bears a striking resemblance [coincidental] to BEZUBAAN [Shashi Kapoor, Reena Roy, Naseeruddin Shah], about a blackmailer making the life of a married person miserable.

For those who haven't watch DERAILED, THE TRAIN is a novel experience for sure. The Indianisation of the plot as also the twists-n-turns in the narrative keep the film going. Besides, the film is embellished with lilting music [Mithoon], which acts as the perfect topping on the pudding.

All said, THE TRAIN is very much on track and succeeds in reaching its destination without hiccups.

Vishal [Emraan Hashmi], a middle class man, is settled in Bangkok with his wife, Anjali [Sayali Bhagat] and their 5-year-old daughter Nikki. Anjali and Vishal are trying to hold on to their deteriorating marriage, which is already under tremendous pressure.

One ordinary day, on his way to work, Vishal meets Roma [Geeta Basra], a beautiful, captivating woman. The attraction between them is instantaneous. As Vishal gets to know her better, he realizes that she too is a loner, trapped in a loveless marriage. The attraction between them reaches a peak and they decide to give in to an adulterous affair.

As Anjali starts getting suspicious of Vishal's erratic behavior, his romance with Roma deepens. He is torn between the two loves of his life. Just when Vishal thought life could not get more complicated, he realizes that his secret liaison is known to someone, an unknown elusive enemy who is bent on using the knowledge to destroy all three lives.

Vishal realizes that the game will never end till he finds a permanent solution and that would be to eliminate the enemy.
